Our Proposals
A planning application is being brought forward by Newpark Developments for the next phase of the redevelopment of the site of the former Belfast Metropolitan College site on the Whiterock Road.
In 2025, planning permission was granted for 62 social housing units and a new Children's Centre. As part of the wider redevelopment, Newpark Developments are proposing to add 15 additional social homes and to change the existing approved plans for the Whiterock Children’s Centre.
For further information on the previous proposals, please visit the consultation website here.
Phase One of the scheme (44 units) is already underway and phase two will see another 33 units constructed at Whiterock Road. Phase two will be as follows;
1no. 3 Bed House
1no. 5 Bed House
2no. 3 Bed Maisonette Houses
3no. 2 Bed Maisonette Houses
2no. 3 Bed Apartments
11no 2 Bed Apartments
12no. 2 Bed Apartments for people over 55
1no. 1 Bed Apartment
A number of these homes will be wheelchair accessible properties.
The housing proposals seek to address the growing need for high-quality social housing in West Belfast by providing approximately 77 homes (26 houses & 51 apartments) within the scheme compared to the previously approved 62. These new homes will be supported by extensive areas of amenity space throughout the site along with private garden areas.
The new Children’s Centre will provide a purpose-built community facility designed to support the needs of the local community by delivering space for children of all ages and needs.

What is the need for more Social Housing in NI?
Across Northern Ireland, the number of people currently registered to social housing waiting lists sits at over 45,000. This is the highest level over housing need in the past 10 years. This development and others like it will help to reduce these waiting lists across Northern Ireland.

How Will These Homes be Allocated?
Homes will be allocated to those who need them most via the Housing Selection Scheme administered by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. These properties will be made available to rent to everyone on the housing waiting list in the local area.
